        SAAB does exist, now as an electric vehicle manufacturer in Sweden using the SAAB brand but through a company called National Electric Vehicle.

    As a matter of fact, Subaru is not independent. The owner of the brand is Fuji Heavy Industries and Toyota has 16% of shares (Suzuki has mere 2%).

    Malaysian Proton (founded 1983) bears mention as well; they produce a number of different vehicles, primarily for the domestic market but they have exported to a.o. the UK and they are the current owners of renowned LOTUS.

    Malaysian Perodua is a formidable competitor to Proton in a Malaysian context but perhaps do not bear mention here as they are a single company whereas Proton consists of two companies…
